The Harvest Festival of Grand Akoudzin pictured here was on December 1, 2001. It is held each year on the first Saturday in December. Fifteen chiefs from surrounding villages were in attendance and actively participated in this festival along with, of course, the chief of Grand Akoudzin. People of importance in the Government of Côte d'Ivoire, the Minister of Social Affairs and the Minister of Tourism, both spoke to the large crowd of participants and observers. The main event of the festival was a competition between traditional families of the village. This consisted of twelve dramatic presentations for spectators and a panel of judges of a former way of life and methods of harvest. Every presenting family recieved a prize, and the winning family was presented with a refrigerator/freezer. Both the participants and the spectators, who often ended up participating, had a wonderful time during this one day festival.
